I like the look of your website,.. or is it a blog? I notice that it's built using WordPress, but couldn't see any theme name references,- did you have it custom built?
Yeah,.. I'm using WordPress (currently 2.8 version at time of this writing). It seems the line between blogs and sites is getting less distinct these days, but for simplicity lets call it a blog with features. The theme being used is Brian Gardner's Lifestyle-20 which I've customized in terms of , header, colors and some of the other CSS settings, but apart from that it's pretty much straight out of the box and I love it. Nice clean coding with good functionality.

There appears to be a lot of membership sites sprouting up everywhere,- do you see this as a fad or a growing trend, and also do you intend to follow this model eventually with your own site?
Yes there are certainly a lot of membership sites and blogs showing up more so than at any other time previous it seems. I think the membership site model can be a very worthwhile one for sure, not just for the blog or site owner, but for the members too provided that the membership has been heavily loaded with benefits that more than balance the investment. In my own case I like the concept of providing premium services and products for a fee, but leave the rest open for free access and make sure that as much emphasis is put into maintaining the free content as is with the paid content. That way everyone's happy and it provides a good base for future member registrations.

I've been online for about 12 months now and still not really made any money to speak of despite putting in tons of effort and having spent heaps on too many different programs. I'm not sure if my website or overall approach is right but seem to be missing a key ingredient even though I think I've done everything (almost) right and have even released a couple of good e-products that I spent heaps on promotion by Adwords which brought traffic but few sales that didn't anywhere cover the cost of promotion. What advice could you offer,.. and could I get you to look over my site sometime?
Sure,.. I'd be happy to have a look at your site and relative sales pages etc. I don't think you're alone in your story and elongated quest for success (some people say that the first 12 months is there for you to get ready to get started!). I think you've realized by now that buying into every new product launch or "must have" tool is going to get you anywhere except deeper in frustration and debt. The simple formula is to 1) create a product (that has demand),.. yes you can find affiliate products but you won't really see solid success until you have your own product. 2) Create a website/blog/landing page (could be 'all' or 'any' of those) 3) Drive traffic and make sales 4)Rinse & repeat.
It sounds simple,..because it is simple, but the key lies in creating the right product, having a sale page that sells (graphics are nice but sale copy is king), and then using smart means to drive traffic to the sales page by way of organic and web2.0 traffic.Adwords can help, and if you're really an expert in competitive keyword research and application thereof you can do fine...otherwise you can crash & burn. See some of the articles and blog posts on those topics (find in the main menu bar or use the search box).
